This easy gummy recipe is perfect for parties, snacks, and candy gifts.
Ingredients
-
1 cup blood orange juice (fresh or bottled, strained)
-
1 tbsp lemon juice (for brightness)
-
3 envelopes (21g total) unflavored gelatin
-
1/2 cup granulated sugar
-
1/4 cup light corn syrup
-
1–1.5 tsp Blood Orange Flavoring / Extract
-
1–2 drops orange or red gel food coloring (optional)
Directions
1. Bloom the Gelatin
Pour the blood orange juice into a saucepan.
Sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the surface (do not stir).
Let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom.
2. Add Sweeteners
Add sugar, lemon juice, and corn syrup to the bloomed gelatin.
Gently whisk to combine.
3. Heat the Mixture
Warm over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar and gelatin completely dissolve.
Do not boil—remove from heat once smooth and steaming.

Stir in Blood Orange Flavoring and gel food coloring.
Mix well until evenly colored.
5. Pour Into Molds
Transfer the mixture to a heat-safe cup with a pour spout.
Carefully fill silicone molds to the top.
Tap molds lightly to release air bubbles.
6. Chill and Unmold
Refrigerate gummies for 1 hour or until fully set.
Pop gummies out of molds and store in an airtight container.
Recipe Note
10 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Can I use another juice instead of blood orange?
Yes, but the flavoring should match the juice for best results.
2. Why did my gummies turn cloudy?
Boiling the mixture or undissolved gelatin can cause cloudiness—keep heat low.
3. Can I make these gummies vegan?
Replace gelatin with agar agar (about 2–3 tsp), but texture will be firmer.
4. How strong should the Blood Orange Flavoring be?
1 tsp gives a mild citrus taste; 1.5 tsp gives a bold, candy-like flavor.
5. How long do gummies stay fresh?
Up to 1 week refrigerated in an airtight container.
6. Can I dust the gummies in sugar?
Yes, but wait 12 hours after unmolding or gummies may sweat.
7. Can I add citric acid for more tartness?
Yes—add 1/4 tsp after removing from heat for extra tang.
8. My gummies are too soft—why?
Add more gelatin (1 extra packet) for a firmer, bouncier texture.
9. Can I freeze homemade gummies?
Freezing changes their texture—refrigeration is recommended.
10. Do I need mold release spray?
No, silicone molds release gummies cleanly without additional oil.
