How to use natural brown food coloring
Follow the current bottle directions. Measure a small trial, mix thoroughly in your actual base and record the amount and finished shade before scaling. Base color, acidity and processing can affect the result; drop sizes vary with the dispenser.
The currently published general use range is 0.5–2% by weight. Confirm the current directions and percentage basis for your application; this range does not guarantee a particular shade in every recipe.
Ingredients and formula
Listed ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Distilled Water and Caramel IV. Check the current bottle label and product documents for the formula supplied.
This product is listed as water-soluble. For plain melted chocolate or an oil-based coating, choose a color specifically suited to that application; water-soluble and oil-soluble colors are not automatically interchangeable.
This is a coloring ingredient, not a replacement for caramel flavoring, cocoa or chocolate. Dilute within a recipe; do not taste the concentrate on its own.
Food coloring questions
Is Caramel IV coloring the same as caramel flavoring?
No. Caramel IV is the listed brown color ingredient. Keep the flavor and structural ingredients in your recipe; use a separate flavoring when caramel taste is the goal.
Can I use this color in cake frosting?
Use a compatible cooled frosting or icing and follow the current directions. Check the final shade in a small portion before coloring the whole batch. Coloring frosting does not establish performance in hot cake batter.
Which size should I choose for a trial or bulk order?
Compare the available sizes and prices above. Establish the recipe with a small trial before scaling. For larger quantities or formulation questions, ask about bulk food coloring.
